We get lots of questions about the specs of our new 2G child locator device, coming out in August, 2009. The most common questions include weight and dimensions. Well, there are a bunch of specs that we can make available to you and here they are, thanks to our Vice President of Research and Development and resident Technological Expert, Son Le:

I think you mean SiRf III Star Fire GPS
Thank you for the input. The change has been made!
I have a few questions:
1. The design is not small enough to be conspicuously hidden. Do you have any suggestions for where to hide it besides a backpack? (I am guessing that an abductor may abandon the child's backback)
2. Battery life is stated to be 16-20 hrs with average use. Does it mean that while the unit is on, the battery is using up these 16-20 hrs, or does this mean that this power is being used up only when I login to track the child.
3. If the power is being wasted WHILE the unit is on, isn't it too short of a time for the unit to die? After less than 24 hours of a child missing, the unit will be discharged! Please give us your answers to this. Thanks so much
@Alina: If you haven't noticed that your kid is missing and started to investigate within 20 hours, electronics won't help.
What will the web-based software platform be? Are you licensing the BOLT server? Is there somewhere online where we can see a demo of the tracking?
Hi Alina
Just wanted to take a few minutes and answer your questions.
1. The AAGPS 2G is the smallest GPS tracking device on the market. It's
almost half the size of our previous unit. In order to make it any smaller,
we would have to compromise battery life and we don't want to do that. Our
accessories allow the unit to be worn on a belt or hang from a belt loop.
Some parents get creative and attach pouches inside of the clothing.
2. We are in production, but continue to perfect the unit. Right now with
our testing and tweaks we are getting 24-27 hours out of the new unit (and
this is with a lot of usage!). Our unit never goes to sleep. It has real
time tracking which means it constantly receives the latest location and
stores it on the device. This means you'll always know where your child is.
In order to do real time tracking, we have to sacrifice battery. So the
battery is being used even when you are not consciencously tracking.
3. We ask customers to treat the AAGPS 2G like they do their cell phones -
use them throughout the day, charge at night. Ken is right - you'd know if
your child is missing before 24 hours is up. We also have the best features
like SOS, safe zone, and destination alert to help parents know if their
child has wandered or been abducted. Once a child presses the SOS or leaves
the safe zone, you have a bread crumb trail of their locations every 5
minutes.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ken
I talked to our IT department to find your answer. This is what they said:
LAMP is the web-based software platform.
Please let us know if you have further questions.

Can you please tell me more about the voice monitoring part of this device. I've been researching which child locator would be the best fit for our family and I can't find any detail about the voice monitoring other than it states the GPS G2 has "voice monitoring"
